For how long do closed credit card accounts stay on credit files?
Credit CardVivek A asked:
I have 13 accounts showing up on my credit files. Never late. 11 of them are closed. I was recently denied a new credit card saying ‘too many accounts’. Any idea for how long will the closed credit accounts appear in my credit history?

Accounts closed in good standing can report for at least 10 years.
If you had opened and closed a majority of those cards recently, within the past year or so, then that may be one of the reasons why you were denied.
The creditor may look at it as you have a habit of opening cards to receive some type of benefit, ie some type of reward, take advantage of a balance transfer, etc. then you close the card as soon as the benefit is over and open a new account to repeat the cycle.
If that isn’t the case you might call them and ask them to explain their reason for the denial and if they will reconsider your application.

Here is a web site that I used to get all that info and more. They helped clean up my credit report. Your problem is simple and I am sure they can help.
Good luck and Happy New Year!
