Which credit card gives you the best rewards?
Credit CardLuv my son (baby #2 due 11/4/09) asked:
I tend to use one credit card to charge all my expenses each month and then pay it off at the end of the month. There are sooooo many credit cards out there and I was wondering which one gives the best rewards back. What card do you use, and what type of benefit do you get for using it? I don’t care if it is for airline miles, cash back (a percentage) or some sort of point program. I was just wondering who is using what card and why?? Thanks!

I use the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express. No annual fee the first year, $30/year after.
There are no capacity controls or blackout dates for award redemption, so it’s easy to use points. Also, you can convert your points into airline miles at more than 30 airlines. And with most airlines, if you convert 20,000 points into 20,000 miles, there is a 5,000 mile bonus.
I haven’t ever used my Starwood points for airline miles because they are more valuable for hotel stays.
I think this is one of the best travel rewards credit cards around.

I would suggest staying away from airline cards because the way airlines are cutting back on their benefits, you may never know when they’ll cancel their mileage programs. I was browsing through the following site and there seems to be some very good cash back cards. That’s the best way to make your money back without having to figure out what points are actually worth. See if you like any of them.

Chase Freedom is nice because you can choose how to use your reward points. You can even redeem those points for a statement credit. Basically the major banks offer so many great programs. The cool thing is you can typically earn 3% - 5% bonus points on purchases if they are made at certain places. The most common now is that some reward cards give you 5% back on gas purchases. You have to find the card that best fits your lifestyle.

Some good rewards cards include the AmEx Blue Cash card (up to 5% cash back at grocery/gas/drug stores, but tiered), the Citi Diamond Preferred card (5% rewards at grocery/gas/drug stores for the first year), and the Capital One No Hassle Miles Ultra for Professionals (2% rewards on all spending, but $39 annual fee).
You can use this rewards calculator to see which of numerous cards will pay you the most for your normal spending profile:

Its all pratical and its awesome to get rewards. I applied online through applyfastbankcards and got paid $55, they pay you to use their site. Good Luck:)

I think if you’re using your card for ALL purchases, it’s probably the best to get a cash back card that allows you to get cash back on everything. I’m a big fan of the AMEX blue cash card.
