Who do you call when your credit card company cuts your limit below the pre existing balance?
Credit CardJacquelyn C asked:
My elderly parents have a credit card through JC Pennys. Recently Pennys cut their limit which is going on right now with a lot of companies. However they cut their limit below what they already had on the card and are charging them over limit fees. My parents have never been late on a payment. What can be done about this? Who do you call?

The company has every right to lower the lines of the credit card they issue. This is pretty much a standard polices in the terms and conditions you receive when you get your card though the majority of us just throw that paper out without reading. Charging a fee after they have done this though is not right. I would contact the company directly and see if the fees can be waived until the balance can be brought down. If that doesn’t work write a formal complaint to the company, contact the Better Business Bureau and also your state attorney general.

Sorry, I don’t have an answer but I’d like to know that too. I was just wondering about this the other day when my boyfriend’s cc limit was reduced. He doesn’t use his much but one of mine is nearly maxed out and I commented about how I’d be screwed if they reduced mine.

Call JC Penney to see if the line can be raised and take off the OL fees.
